“Nan Beheydt is door het Rockoxhuis uitgekozen omdat zij enerzijds het beste aansluit bij de sfeer van het Rockoxhuis. Zij weet op een hedendaags manier een stilleven te schilderen waarvoor zij haar inspiratie haalt uit de schilderkunst van de Spaanse 17de-eeuwse stillevenkunstenaar Cotán. Zij heeft deze keuze ook zeer goed gestaafd in een overtuigende motivatienota. Zij kent haar klassiekers. Anderzijds is zij technisch ook zeer goed en benadert het illusionisme dat zo fel bedreven werd in de vroeg 17de-eeuwse schilderkunst. Dat zij om haar werk te maken hedendaagse voorwerpen gebruikt is alleen maar een meerwaarde.”

Alexander Litvinenko was a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and KGB, who fled from court prosecution in Russia and received political asylumin the United Kingdom.

On 1 November 2006, Litvinenko suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized. He died three weeks later, becoming the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome. Litvinenko's allegations about the misdeeds of the FSB and his public deathbed accusations that Russian president Vladimir Putin was behind his unusual malady resulted in worldwide media coverage.

BORDERLINE TIMES

Borderline Times...

In zijn boek 'Ode aan de Arbeid'(2009) wijst Alain de Botton ons erop dat de werkcultuur in onze hedendaagse prestatiemaatschappij geworteld is in het achttiende eeuwse anti-aristocratische en burgerlijke idee dat een mens door werk nobel, en dus 'beter' zou worden.
Succes op de werkvloer leidt tot het opklimmen op de sociale ladder en het verwerven van status, wat maakt dat de werkende mens in zijn poging zo een 'beter' mens te worden, tot het uiterste gaat:hij draait gewillig mee in onze steeds meer kafkaëske administratie- en productie-mallemolen, maar niet zonder nefaste gevolgen.
De exponentieel toenemende productiedifferentiëring en controle/meetcultuur veroorzaakt een mentale vervreemding: de werknemer verricht in het productieproces handelingen die in het definitieve eindproduct vaak niet meer herkenbaar zijn.
Daardoor dringt zich de vraag naar zingeving weer op: wanneer is werk eigenlijk zinvol? Kun je spreken van een betekenisvolle baan, en daarmee een zinvolle invulling van je bestaan, als je door de vele bijkomstige taakjes het geheel en de essentie uit het oog verliest, als je door de bomen het bos niet meer ziet?
Dit leidt tot zware interne conflicten. Zijnsvragen dringen zich op: persoonlijke identiteit versus sociale rol, toevals- of lotsbestemming, de waarde van techniek versus natuur en mythos, relationele waarden en ... de zin van het leven. (Nan Beheydt)
